Thinking about joining George Mason Model UN?
Great! You’ve come to the right place. We are an excellent academic extracurricular activity, with only as much commitment necessary as you’d like. As they say in the business, you’ll get out of it what you put into it! Read on to learn more about GMU MUN.
Why join George Mason Model UN?
Why not? We’re the best thing going at George Mason for more than a decade! Model UN meetings are only held once a week, and they are not mandatory (unless you’re going to the next conference). Every few weeks, we attend a conference at a prestigious college or university, often taking a well-traveled tour of the country by the time the “MUN season” comes to a close in the spring. From Chicago to New York and maybe even Europe, we go all over, partaking in intense debate with some of the smartest, intellectually-stimulating collegiate students on the national circuit. You can attend as many (or as few) conferences as you like. Even more, Model United Nations is a great way to build up knowledge about government and international politics outside of class, especially if that’s in the concentration area of your major.
Do I have to be a Government or International Affairs major?
Of course not! George Mason University embraces diversity, and so does Model United Nations. Perhaps you’re a biology major and need a break from studying the details of the pituitary gland; maybe you’d like to exercise your mouth and give your ears a rest if you’re a music major. It doesn’t matter, we’d love to have you join us. While you might be in a committee with someone who has a crush on Tony Blair, don’t despair…not all Model UN students are like that (but maybe more than we’d like to admit).
Great! So how do I join?
All you have to do to join is come by one of our meetings or contact a member of the executive board. We do not collect dues, so don’t worry about joining us a little later in the year. Just check the calendar to see when we meet next and stop on by. We can’t wait to meet you!
We hope this answers any questions you might have. If we’ve failed to address something, feel free to contact us and ask away.
