About

Welcome to George Mason University’s Model United Nations team!

We strive to offer students the opportunity to explore a wide range of international policy issues through debate at a variety of conferences each year.

The majority of our members participate in intercollegiate Model United Nations conferences at which delegates from universities and colleges across the country participate in committee simulations over an extended weekend (typically Thursday-Sunday), each hosted by a prestigious university at their campus or at a nearby hotel.  Realistic simulations of the United Nations create engaging and educational experiences for those students ready to challenge themselves intellectually.

Each conference offers a wide variety of simulations.  Students will find themselves debating policies in committees running the gamut from the United States Presidential Cabinet 2009 and the United Nations Security Council to a joint crisis between the North and South sides in the Civil War and even the Apple Board of Directors.  Other students will find themselves immersed in intense caucuses in committees like the World Bank or the African Union — and maybe even the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).  Simulations of past, present and futuristic world events, such as wars, crises or country cabinets are all present in a typical Model United Nations weekend.

MASUN

George Mason University also sponsors its very own conference, exclusively for high school students locally and outside of the metropolitan region.  The Mid-Atlantic Simulation of the United Nations (MASUN) is held each spring, and over 500 students every year gather to debate the pressing matters of the day.

Mason students, from freshmen to seniors to graduate students, run the entire conference with positions ranging from Chairs and Vice Chairs of the committees, to Crisis Directors and staff, to Administrative and Secretariat positions who organize and run the conference.
